3D printed parts - recommended material?

What material is recommended for printed parts?

Hi there,

You can use pretty much any material, of course. The point is to use material that have higher stiffness or bending modulus, thus the machine will have less deflection or it would be more rigid.

I personally used PLA-CF, because the carbon fibers increase the the stiffness (Bending modulus XY) from 2750MP for normal PLA, to 3950 for PLA-CF.

On the other hand the PLA-CF is not as durable as ABS, or ASA or PETG maybe, but those three have lower stiffness. Though, that doesn’t mean you cannot use them. I mean, I cannot tell for sure how much difference they would make in the final rigidity of the machine. I guess we will know if someone prints one in these other materials, and measure the deflection like I showed in the video, and share the results with us.

By the way, currently I’m working on MK2 of the HTMCNC 3D printed version, with 4x4’ work area, and I will use PET-CF which has even greater stiffness of around 5700 Mpa.

Polymaker Fiberon PET-CF17 was one of my thougts. Thank you for fast response!

Yes, I will use that one exactly. It’s a great option with reasonable price for the increadible stiffness that it offers I think.

Nice thing about PET-CF is you can choose color other than black.
Other option I looked at was Bambulab PPA-CF, but it is quite expensive.

Yeah, I was considering the PPA-CF but like you said, it’s quite expensive. I think PET-CF is really great choice. I’ve just started printing with it.
